Did you know that your body is designed to release 70% of its toxins through breathing? If you are not breathing effectively, you are not properly ridding your body of its toxins. This means that
other systems in your body must work overtime which could eventually lead to illness. In order to breathe properly you need to breathe deeply into your abdomen. Yet often people breathe shallowly filling only the
top third of their lungs. And if upset, a person may hardly breathe at all.
Deep, conscious breathing is a simple way to relax your body, reduce stress and oxygenate your cells. The following is a simple breathing exercise that will also help to bring you into the present
moment.
Sit upright with your back against a chair. Place the flat of your hand over your naval. Now relax your abdomen and take a slow, deep breath in. Inhale as you lower your diaphragm and feel your
abdomen expand. On the exhale your abdomen will contract. Repeat this several times You can even say to yourself, "Breathing in.....Breathing out......"
It also helps to consciously remind yourself to breathe when you get upset or stressed in any way. Just breathing deeply into your belly will help you calm down and deal with the situation more
effectively.
