Medicine Teachers/ Connecting with Spirit
November 8th, 2009Recently I received news about Ted Andrew’s passing. Ted was the author of more than 40 books including the best seller, Animal-Speak, The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great and Small. Although I never met Ted I knew him through his writing as his sensitive, generous spirit shined through his words.
Some people do not realize that spirit lives in everything both animate and inanimate. Ted knew this and wrote about the way of spirit in nature. Now when I see an animal or bird I look up the symbolism and message in Animal-Speak. As a result of Ted’s influence I pay more attention to signs from nature. Sometimes this requires quieting the mind and opening to subtler energies, similar to tapping into one’s intuition. Much wisdom can be gleaned by tuning into the power of nature.
Another author and teacher, Lynn Andrews, taught me about the spirit in rocks. I have always been drawn to rocks, pebbles and crystals. Lynn learned from her medicine teacher, Agnes Whistling Elk, that every stone has seven faces: sound, sight, scent, taste, emotion and awareness. In Lynn’s book, Flight of the Seventh Moon. I learned that rocks are like all living things except they are denser. Agnes taught Lynn that many rocks come from other worlds and that they can see a long way off. Rocks can provide a gateway to the crystal world to find answers to things. By learning to go into those gateways you could explore many things past and future.
I find this information exciting and wondrous. Because I am an intuitive who was born and raised into a family that reveres intellectual acuity I also find it validating. I have realized for many years that the analytical mind can only go so far. We need to balance that part of the brain with the more intuitive side that is tapped into the forces of nature, the spirit world.
Spirit talks to us in different ways. It is up to us to listen. I tune into spirit by going into the silence, taking walks, channeling Reiki and by connecting with the wisdom of Tarot. What methods work for you? How do you connect with spirit?
Blessings,
Susan

Susan, I must confess that 15 years ago I might have raised my eyebrow in disbelief while reading this post. However, I have had many personal experiences with Spirit speaking to me, and specifically Spirit/Nature communicating to and through me.
My kitties were the first to show me the depth of consciousness in animals, which then translated to being able to connect and communicate with animals in the wild. They absolutely *do* respond to my loving thoughts~sometimes standing and gazing into my eyes as I send them my appreciation.
I read a book about an indigenous culture that used rocks to ground themselves and release their “heavy” energy (which feels light to rocks). I thought it was crazy at the time, then discovered for myself how wonderful this really works. After doing this, and expressing my gratitude, I found myself *feeling deep love and appreciation* for rocks!!
Ancient civilizations and indigenous cultures have always known: Everything is energy, and all energy is consciousness, which means ALL matter (and non-matter) is consciousness. Even Albert Einstein knew this [E(nergy)=MCsqared], although current science is only now catching up.
Many blessings,
Nancy
Nancy, how wonderful that you have been able to communicate with animals in the wild as well. I have had some communication with a bee who buzzed around me one day while I was sitting in a meadow and a little bit of understanding with a neighborhood coyote. Other than that it has mostly been with domestic animals.
There is so much to be learned from nature. Books have been written with vast information obtained from crystals. Some people have also had a deep communion with the plant kingdom such as Dorothy Maclean. She communicated with nature spirits who instructed her in how to grow the extraordinary Findhorn garden.
This is a fascinating topic and I appreciate your contribution.
Many blessings to you and thank you.

I’ve been a natural intuitive for years but never trained the ability.
an interest in gardening and nature helped me through 2 major career changes and the confusion and depression that can result. 4 years ago I began writing a blog and was inspired to purchase a camera to help me share images from my garden and to learn to design some pleasing web pages.
From there I was gently led it seems to begin to try to capture the magic that occurs in the natural world, not just our garden but the garden we call earth.
I discovered in my own backyard that our disconnect from the natural world has been the source of many of human kinds distresses and diseases. But I also discovered that it’s easy to step away from the mainstream and remind myself that I am connected to this beautiful magical natural world I’ve come to call Our Enchanted Garden.
In my explorations I have been blessed with many special and heartfelt moments.
I am currently embarking on an adventure to train my skills somewhat through help from a friend, a Reiki master and Animal Communicator; Trish Scott (http://scottfree2b.com. I’m looking forward to working with her as our family is involved in the rescue and fostering of abandoned jack russell terriers and this may aid us with our own animals as well as the fosters!
On my website and blogs I encourage the Celebration of nature, the natural world and the human spirit immersed within it. My work is developing to help move people who visit to remember ; We are a part of nature – we are not apart from it!

Our Enchanted Garden
Hi Cheryl,
How nice to meet you!! Thank you so much for commenting on my blog.
I so agree with you about the importance of connecting with nature and it being a vital link to health and well-being. Many people find comfort simply by spending time in their gardens and digging their hands into the earth. I know for me just being out in nature is soothing.
It sounds like you have embarked on an exciting and rewarding path. Glad you have the opportunity to study with your friend, Trish. And I love the name of your site, “Our Enchanted Garden”.
Are you a Twitter friend of Affirming Spirit’s and what is your Twitter url? I will would love to connect with you there.
All the best to you, Cheryl.
Many Blessings,
Susan
